The End Child Poverty Coalition warmly welcomes the announcement from the Scottish Government on the two-child limit
Comment in response to the Scottish government’s announcement that they intend to scrap the two-child limit to benefit payments for families in Scotland.
Joseph Howes, Chair of the End Child Poverty Coalition and CEO of Buttle UK said;
The End Child Poverty Coalition warmly welcomes the Scottish Government’s announcement today that they plan to mitigate the impact of the two-child limit to benefit payments. This is a policy which is responsible for pushing families into poverty. And once gone, thousands of children will benefit. In some areas, like Glasgow Central 18% of all children live in a family impacted by this policy.*
However, children in England, Wales and Northern Ireland shouldn’t be subjected to this policy. And today’s announcement demonstrates that with political will, change for the poorest families is possible. We call on the UK government to scrap this cruel policy, for all families, immediately.
