End Child Poverty Coalition Welcomes the Government’s Plans to Tackle Child Poverty; But Calls for Immediate Action on Two-Child Limit

In response to today’s announcement the End Child Poverty has released the following quote:

Joseph Howes, Chair of the End Child Poverty Coalition and CEO of Buttle UK said;

“The End Child Poverty Coalition is pleased to see the government’s commitment to tackling child poverty through a new ten-year strategy. Child poverty is an unacceptable blight on our society and this strategy must provide a clear roadmap towards eradication. We want to see the government take this opportunity to set measurable and binding targets both for the next ten years and for complete eradication.

“To lift children out of poverty, this strategy must have social security reform at its bedrock. That’s why the End Child Poverty Coalition is asking for the Chancellor to prove serious intent by using the upcoming Budget and Spending review to scrap the two-child limit and benefit cap. This should be followed by systematic increases in the adequacy of social security, until no family is held back by the debilitating impacts of poverty.”
